I posted this question in the Evo Classics section, but felt it would be more appropriate here (I know mine is not a Dyna, but I like this ape hanger thread!).
I'm currently rebuilding my custom rigid Evo and going to go with a set of apes (first time). I currently have some pretty tall risers with some pullback. Even with drag bars and good bushings, there is still a lot of movement in the risers (at the bushings).
If you watch the video below, at one point I'm sitting on the bike measuring out the height of future apes. with the height of the current risers on the bike, I'm looking at maybe 16" standard apes.
My question to you all here is what is your opinion with the current risers I have now with 16" apes. Do you recommend I replace the risers with a shorter set with/without pullback?
Question, are apes comfortable? If they place your hands above your solders do you hands fall asleep if you don't drop them every so often?
Are Apes comfortable really depends on the individual.
I have Burly 14 in apes and my hands sit just below my shoulder level, so I'm not using any muscle strength to keep my arms up. I find them very comfortable, have done 260 miles in a day with no problem.
However, I personally don't see how Apes that sit above your shoulder can be comfortable for long rides.
