i am thinking about getting these handle bars but i am a lil consider about the comfort for road trips. i really like this style bar but i dont want to spend a lot of money and not be comfortable on long trips.
i will putting them on a 02 fxd.
I have 14's on my bike and I have no comfort issues at all. They're actually more comfortable than the low rider bars I had on my Superglide. I'm 6'4" and I would actually like to switch up to some 16's.
Apes are probably the most comfortable, especially since you have the most adjustment with them. Push them forward or back to find the perfect sweet spot.
I have run numerous different apes on my bikes and always enjoyed them. Have done Iron Butt rides with them and no issues with comfort at all.
All that said.... You may find the first month or so you have them that you are not completely comfortable if you have never had them before or it is a big switch from what you have now. Give it time, your body needs to make adjustments too. Once you get use to them though you should enjoy them.
a friend of mine is a custom builder. I am looking at 16 inch apes for my 06 FXD his advice sit in the saddle put your arms where they are most comfortable and have someone measure the distance from your risers to the position of your hands that will be approximate for the height.
