I'm glad to see someone want to sport out their SG. Looks great. I'm working on a similar angle for my SG. Take a look at my post Sport Fairing for a 06 SG. With the XR 1000 bars that would make a really great looking machine. Most of the people here want that "cool, apehanger, bob look", just not my style. I'll read the post in the frames and suspension section you mentioned and I will be following your lead.
Nice bike! I really like the look of your XR1000 bars on there. Was it a direct bolt on, cables, wires and so on?
Thanks,
Dan
The bars bolt on. The clutch cable is a little long now, but not enough to warrant changing. I had to bend the brake line where it leaves the mastercyclinder. The bars are lower and the turn signals were very close to hitting the tank. I moved them down to the tripple trees using a 49mm clamp from Kuryakyn. I had first bought the turn signal relocation kit from HD but it's stalks looked funky and fit poorly, the Kury from J&P cycles looks awesome ( you gotta go to the hardware store and buy two bolts). The bars are 32" from tip to tip so you have great leverage but not too wide to be uncomfortable. I don't think they are really a flattrack bend, more of a clubman bend, but when you gas it out of a corner real hard and hit the staightaway you kind of feel like Scotty Parker. HA!
I like it, I'm going the same way with my Bob.I loved the look of the stock mini apes but after about a week found that they were not comfortable for me at anything over about 65.I switched em out for Flanders wide flat track bars and love em.I recently cranked up the preload all the way on my rear shocks and was amazed at the difference in handling.I've always liked sporty standards and street fighters more than cruisers and in retrospect I should have thought about that before I bought my Bob, I probably would have been happier with a 1200R.
It just dawned on me, where are your turn signals?
eh eh
actually I dont have any front turn signal... The stock ones wont fit with those bars. I'm now looking for something smaller, maybe I'll relocate them on the fork
The XR1000 bars are still listed in the 07 accsessory catalog. I think they are only around $33 plus shipping from http://www.zanottimotor.com/ SUCH A DEAL!!

56085-83T is chrome
56085-83A is black
these are wider than mine... they are 31.5' while mine is just 28'
I use to ride the stock 883R handlebars that are pretty much the same as yours and I decided to cut 1 inch from each side
I feel better with my 28' bars now even if I've lost a bit of handling when in traffic
