Fried stator...
I have been having an issue on my 07 Street Bob with the engine and battery light coming on and the battery getting weak. Checked all my grounds and even replaced the regulator, still had engine and battery light coming on, so I tore into it and checked the stator shonuff the stator had been cooking. Now to order a new stator and get it back on the road, the fix is not that hard. Here are a few pics....some of the pics are from my forward control addition...

just changed mine on the Ultra, had 45k miles, first sign was taking longer on trikle charger to get up to speed then engine light and batt light, and oil color changed to dirty in the primary.
I have already done the forwards, I just wish I would have checked the stator then because it had already lit up the engine and battery light once but it didn't do it again for some miles after I put a good charge on the battery with a charger.

Got the new stator installed. This is a pretty easy repair with just a few extra tools than a basic set, a locking tool for the primary chain sprockets ( I made the tool from some 1 1/2"X 1/8" flat steel bar ) a couple of large sockets, snap ring pliers and a volt meter for checking the charging rate.
Simplified directions...
-Remove the battery and battery box so the starter can be disconnected from the back side of the primary housing.
-Drain the oil.
-Remove primary cover.
-Remove primary chain tensioner
-Remove clutch pack and drive sprocket.
-Remove back side of primary housing.
-Pull rotor off ( I was able to just use my hands )
-Unplug stator from regulator
-Unbolt and remove stator and pull wires free of engine case.
-Disassemble the plug on the stator. ( Mine was a 2007 Dyna Street Bob others may have a different plug )
Reverse for installation.
I think that pretty well covers it, if I missed some thing post the missing info.

while its off, do the compensator. I did a pulley swap last year. I was in the primary again for a belt swap and went ahead with the se compensator and an aim variable pressure clutch hub. Which one is most useful, I do not know, I do know it grabs and goes.
Not to change the subject here since its a great article (BTW well done)... what is an AIM variable pressure clutch hub and how do I get one? thanks sorry to change the topic for a minute or two.
