Took the bike in for the 1k Mile service (Only because I had a certificate for the 1k for free) and the service guy told me that I have to run Harley oil in the bike until the warranty runs out for it to be honored.
Has anyone else heard this and is it true? I thought I read something about this before that they can't force you to use a product to honor the warranty.
I tried to search for the answer but didn't find anything.
They would have to provide it free if that was the case. Also how the hell would they even know if my question? Mobil 1 15w50 for me oops I had too lol!
Hard to beleive dealers are still pulling this ****. Well, no, I guess it isn't, LOL!
Just a FYI: It's actually illegal . . .
"The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act:
It is illegal for any manufacturer to require the exclusive use in the United States of their private label oil to keep their warranty valid. If a manufacturer indicates only their private label brand will satisfy warranty requirements, they are required to do one of two things. Obtain written approval from the Federal Trade Commission that no other product except their private label brand will work (currently no manufacturer has done so) or they must make the oil available to you at no cost.
So if they insist on using HD oil because of the warranty make them give it to you for free. The oil used has to match the specs that HD requires, but a lot of different types of oil meets or exceeds their specs."
YUP! Tell him you wanna run Amsoil (like my dealer does) and he can keep the HD oil for lubing up his mothers A$$!
IMO, I would write the HD customer service and tell them what he said. Not only is he wrong, but hes a liar, HD dont want those idiots representing them...
wadda douche...
