Default ckutch adjusting problem

i got a 97 dyna superglide i having trouble getting the cable to adjust right. i have adjust it already thru the derby cover so i know everything is right there. what happens i loosened all the slack out of the cable and when i hook everything up i make sure the arm is all the wayback in the side cover when i put the the side cover on and put the lever on and start adjusting the slack out the arm inside the side cover seems to pull all the way forward not allowing the clutch to work properly and help would be greatly appreciated

Re-check the 'ball & ramp'.

I believe in order to fully seat the ball ramp prior to cable adjustment you need to take up all the "slack" with the lock / adjust nut setup (behind the derby cover) first. The adjust screw should set the ramp all the way back if adjusted correctly. Be certain the adjust screw makes full contact with the pushrod and then back it off according to spec. Then you take out the slack with the cable adjust.

Have you tried the procedure in the DIY forum? There is a step in the manual about pulling the clutch lever to verify the ball ramp are working and releasing the clutch. A dime in the lever end is a good indicator for the freeplay in the lever.
