I'm not doing the start while priming thing. I get that it works but that is not fixing the problem.

I added 5% more fuel at startup for 7 seconds. This seems to help. I maybe up it to 7% for 10 seconds though.....

I understand your line of thinking. At work I constantly deal with people who do not drill down to the root cause of issues before they consider them "fixed".

But, you're assuming that:

1) ...there is a "problem", and
2) ...it can be fixed with fuel adjustments.

The behavior you describe typically relates to the power outage that occurs to the PC unit once the engine light goes out and priming quits. The only way to circumvent that is to hit Start soon after hitting Run.

Think about it... you can add/remove all the fuel in the world, but if the unit is powered off.... those settings are useless.

Since this is the easiest troubleshooting step to test, it only makes sense that you try it. If you have success, you can rule out fuel issues as the cause of the hard start behavior. If you have failure, then you can move forward working with the appropriate parties to adjust your map to accommodate your machine.

Well, just started up cold a moment ago and the start up fuel adjustment did absolutely nothing. You guys were right.

Guess I know what to do now.

Now I do start my bike when priming, but when it's cold it's hit or miss on the cough. When it's warm it fires on the spot every time. Does your bike cough when cold?? If not can you see what your starting fuel setting is set to on the PCV??

Thanks

I've always noticed a delay after the PC III instal but I can't say it is 5-6 sec like the op stated. As a matter of fact I can't say it's even bothersome but it is there. Of course if you fire it up as stated it is quicker but I'm usually not in a hurry when I'm starting it up.

I hear ya but it's not about being in a hurry or not, it's about the wear and tear on things. If you can do something to make the engine fire up immediately versus turning over a few times before it catches... it's a good idea to do it.

I found I have the best luck when I hit start after a short pause. I'll hit run, pause just for a moment (like literally one second probably), then start. I don't have a cough or anything doing it this way. I have a PCIII not a PCV, sorry.

Ok thanks!! Yea my bike only does it on the first start of the day whether I wait 1 sec, right away or wait till the fuel pump stops. Usually I have to bump the start then start it. When it coughs it spits some black smoke out of the intake. Guess I'll have to play with the starting fuel setting and hopefully find it.

I have a PCIII and always waited for the fuel light to go off before starting. I get a lot of kick back on the starter and hard starting. The advice from this forum has been very helpful. I'll try it later and see how it starts.
