I not that concerned about mpg, but about miles per tank. I really like being able to get 200 miles or more per fillup (my bike is stock right now).

I'd really appreciate hearing about anyone else's experience. And also the benefits of Stage 1.

Thanks.

With a stage one - you will get more power which required more fuel. All that extra energy has to come from somewhere. If you use more fuel per mile, you will get less miles per tank. - assuming you're not putting a bigger tank on the bike. Personally I bought my '10 FXDWG w/ sate one installed from the dealer and have at most 170 miles per tank - and I NEVER push it that for. I fill up at about 150 miles and am feeling very nervous at that distance.

My nickles worth. 2010 FXDC, Khrome Werks HP+ slip-ons, SE Stage 1 kit with backing plate and down load. No other engin mods as of yet. With about 12K miles I'm still getting 50+ MPG with a combo of highway and mountain with a best being 53.4. Of course that's taking it ez. Usually not over 70 on the freeway. Around the city it's more like 46 to 48. No complaints here.

I think that the Stage one DOES affect mileage in two ways:

1) the new sound makes you want to rev it more therefore increasing the use of fuel

2) the mod itself uses more fuel

I have an 08 FXDC with Vance & Hines Straighshots exhaust, SE Stage 1 Air Cleaner kit, and a Fuel Pak, and my bike gets around 42 mpg under almost all circumstances. I tend to do a lot of highway riding around 80 mph and I am a little hard on it around town, but it still gets consistently around 42. If I putt around on back roads at 55 mph, I can manage mid to upper 40's.

It's all about how well the bike is tuned and how you ride. I can do 52+ mpg riding 2 up with a 95" putting out almost 100 hp and a carburator....

My brother has a 09 96" and had short shots/K&N filter and the V&H power pack and was getting 50+. Changed to a PC5 and now only gets in the low 40's. I haven't tuned it yet though, its running a map he got from the dynojet vendor. (which I verified a/f's with my LM2 wideband)

The more power equalling more fuel usage is good on paper, but in reality a few more things come into play. Efficiency is one of them. Take about any given vehicle, the higher HP version is too often the most fuel efficient, or at least their HP differences don't correlate to their differences in gas mileage, especially when driven side by side, speed per speed.

My stage 1 had about the same MPG as stock, some report better, some the same and some slightly worse. To me it's a wash, but too little gain to justify spending more than $1000. I got there for $640. For what I gained, even that was too much money. Seat of the pants felt the same. Top end improved about 10 MPH. I probably rode it harder, so maintaining the same MPG was great.

On the other hand, those mods were good ones, allowing me to go to stage 3 or 4 without changing pipes, programmer or doing major A/C upgrades.

My gas mileage has dipped, but my HP has gone from mid-sixties to 115 and I have a hard time not using that extra kick. I'm a lot heavier on the throttle now, just loving the tire burning acceleration.

Agreed...exactly what I was thinking. The improved sound and added power can certainly encourage a more agressive riding style.
