Has anyone put custom wheels on their Dyna and had to install custom spacers? If so can you please explain how you measured for spacers and where you got them?
Thanks

Default Spacers

I put a bigger rear wheel on my bike and had to have the L/H rear spacer cut down to accommodate the wider hub.
I just put everything that goes on the axle i.e. r/h spacer, brake, rotor, wheel, etc. and didn't install the l/h spacer. After you push everything to the r/h side of the axle, the space that is left in the axle(between the pulley and the swing arm) is the size your spacer has to be. Since my wheel was bigger, I measured the remaining space and took the spacer to a machine shop and had it milled down. It can also be cut down on a metal lathe.
BTW I measured it with a vernier micrometer.

well said! I just finished doing this on my WG. The hub on the new wheel was so wide that I ended up machining down the pulley to give enough clearance. then like he said about, just put everything on and measured whats left. The wheel I ordered came with some spacer bars (long spacer slugs) that I machine cut to the right size.

I had to have my pulley machined too and I had to cut a groove in my rear brake caliper so that the valve stem would clear. Forgot the groove to begin with and bit a loud POP SSSSSSSSSSSSSSS the first time I put the bike on the deck and rolled it out of the garage, was a reminder.

waht i do when i do custom wheels on a bike is i run the axel though the new wheel and put the rotor on the wheel... the lock that in the caliper, take my mesurements and cut them on the lathe. works great any machine shop can do it, or you can order them now that you have your numbers

Would it be OK to use steel washers as spacers until I get my spacers cut down or new spacers?

hope you finished this already! but in case you haven't, washers are fine as long as they aren't so big that they make contact with both outer and inner runs of the bearings. Runs = the small and large diameter rings the bearings are between.
