Default Cam install

I got a killer deal on some redshift 557 cams for the dyna.
I was gonna have them installed but money's a little short, i've read a bunch of threads on it and it seems purdy straight forward......
I have SE tapered adjustables, torringtons, and all the rest of the must have items,,,,, except the locking tool, bearing puller/installer....
I had some rocker boxes and pushrod bases powdered, as well as the pushrod tubes.
Can the cam install be done without those tools?

Dont need the lock tool. You can borrow the bearing tool from auto zone.

I have a bearing puller, with the hook style end, as well as a swivel style end that goes in and pivots to grab the back of the bearing....
Also a bearing/race installer kit...
Im a decent mech, and have plenty of tools as i used to be mechanic.... I've never been in a Vtwin, motor wise...
Been in the primary and clutch Assy several times...
I want to try the cam install myself, wanna learn as much as i can..

Yea .020 but there is a small machined lip where the bearing stops. You just have to feel for it when you are tapping it in. Cant see that it makes much of a difference. The race of the cam is almost twice the depth of the bearing. And to lock the cam gear up for bolt removal put her in high gear and hold or bind the rear brake pedal and loosen the nut. Heck I just used a brass punch and stuck it between the gears to lock them up but thats a old field mechanic for ya. Some would flame you for that but who cares.

It really isnt that difficult, even without the proper tools. Like Soft02 said, theres a lip in the case to act as a stop for the inner bearings. If you press the bearing beyond the lip (and it can happen), you risk cracking the case. So be careful. Just as a reminder, the number on the bearing goes facing you. Dont try to put them in backwards.

before you install those pushrods swap out those locknuts for some thicker grade 8 ones. I had one come loose a couple of weeks ago and walk itself off the pushrod. wasn't a good thing.
