I am having a heck of a time finding a black sissy bar (or any sissy bar for that matter) for my 2000 FXDX. The 2000 and 2001 FXDX had a different rear fender and width than the rest of the models so the other bars won't fit. I am putting a quick detach sissy bar on for the girl. I have the correct docking hardware kit which is part #53839-00
The correct side plates are easy to come by and are part #53834-00A
These two things are easy to find, but now I can't find a dang sissy bar to get this stuff to work! If I can't find one I may have to have the indie/builder I know weld one up for me which will probably cost more than just buying one if I can find it.
let me know bud i am sure we could weld up and coat an upright for you. may also look at some of the sloppy tails and even sportys to see if those will fit your side plates
I have a Harley brand bar on mine. If you look at the parts section on the HD website, it is still there. Mine's a 2001. I do notice that when I search for aftermarket items for the FXDX, not too much stuff comes up. If I change the search to FXD, a lot more things pop up. I did not know that the rear fenders were different than the regualer Dyna though.

Only on the 2000 and 2001, the FXDX had 150mm rear tire that year and a fender to compensate, the rest of the Dynas still had a more narrow tire. They all had the wider tire in later years.
Your best bet is to either buy the chrome one from Harley and get it coated, or have someone custom bend some square stock for you and coat that. There shouldn't be any welding involved if all you're looking for is a sissy-bar similar to the stock Harley type. Unless you want them to weld in the plate for screwing on a pad, but for that you can get pads that use the spanner bar on top and bottom.
