Can you get leather pads that can attach to them and then be removed for solo rides? I've never seen one with a pad so it got me wondering. They look pretty cool but my wife needs a backrest so if they are not functional then I don't think I would bother. They look way cooler than the detachable backrests though.
you could make one... Ply-wood, leather, and cotton.... run a couple of bolts through the ply wood and put some wing nuts for a quick detatch did I mention I am originally from Indiana? guess that is just the redneck coming out in me....
but no, I have never seen a sissy bar with a detachable back rest PERSONALLY. I am not saying there isnt one out there
As long as the sissy bar has about a 5-1/8" outside to outside measurement, then most clamp-on style back rests should fit. The standard square stock used for them is 9/16". These are also detachable from the sissy bar, though.

Are you talking about the ones that come up to a point?
If so, I've seen one with a pad shaped to fit that style...twice.
I have no idea who makes em, but they are out there.

I had a mid height round tapered bar and I was able to get a pad for it from Drag Specialties. Check the Fat Book out. Also give Mustang a try as well....
i dont think they really make pads for them, to be honest i dont think
they are supposed to be leaned against as i think they would tend to break
due to the design.
I believe the reason you don't see them is they can't be very safe. The longer the sissy bar is, the more leverage you apply to the mount. I am sure they would be fine, but for the companies making them, there would be alot of liability if one snapped off. Think of a 250 lb woman leaning back hard on a three foot tall sissy bar. She could create over 700 ft/lbs of force on the bar.
