New to Harley's and it's hot out...question for you.
forged/cast steel (pistons/rods/crank/bearings) do not degrade at such low levels of heat. engine oil on the other hand degrades significantly w/ heat/time. ever seen a motor that never had its oil changed. well you get the point.
oil failure leads to engine failure. there really is no reason NOT to run a cooler in the south but, the setup MUST have a stat for colder climates. Pay attention to the operating ranges of the oil.
and no motor, no mater who makes it, is designed it to run hot. heat is purely a by product of a set up, be it cats, tuning for CARB/EpA, etc
