Default engine guards

Hey guys,

I think i am going to get some engine guards for my 11' fxdb.
I was wondering if there are any specific ones you guys would recommend?
I know they kind of kill the look of the bike but im sure you appreciate them that one time you drop your bike.

Here's the best engine guard. Little expensive though.

You might rethink the engine guard. It might help in the 5 mph fall over or opps, forgot the kick stand.

The engine guard on my E.G. caused the most damage to my bike when the cager made the u-turn in front of me. I struck the rt. fender of car at about a 45* angle--shoved engine into the horn and horn into cylinders and chipped cooling fins--also broke top mounting tab on frame for engine guard, H.D. will not replace this tab, requires a new frame so bike is totaled for this.

I went with the HD engine guard, but not in case I drop my bike but because it's a handy place to put highway pegs. And yes it does kill the looks of the Dyna's.

jeewizz, i hadn't thought about that before.
would hate to spend a couply of hundy on an engine guard to have it total my ride.

I have an engine guard and I only put it on for trips to have the highway pegs. It goes on and off in 5 minutes.

Don't like the look of it on the bike either, but on trips I'll take the additional foot rest.

I agree with the majority of the other guys "engine guards" or "crash bars" arnt gonna help you that much in most cases. Most actually say right on the installation instructions that they are not intended to keep your engine from being damaged. Ironic right? Than being said I own a Lindby Bar for my highway pegs.

I've got over 50 years in the saddle, mostly on Harleys and **** happens and when that does, an engine guard saves more than just getting your leg pinned against a hot pipe.. think tank damage, bars and all attachments... not to mention that as your boot slipped on loose gravel, why mark up a beautiful machine.. I ride all seasons, long haul and use Desert Dawgs baffles on stock HD guards when it's cold... like cold.. so don't get hung up on what others think your bike should look like.. it's like a good woman.. it's all in the eyes of the beholder.... go for it.... 2005 FXDWGI & 2002 FLHPI

Think about getting the black engine guard. Blends a lot better with frame. Doesn't stand out as much. Plus, highway pegs give the bar a purpose. Mine grew on me.

I was thinking about doing the same thing, leaving it off most of the time and put it on for trips, kinda like i do with the windshield. I put the engine guard and pegs on a few weeks ago and have been too lazy to take them off.

Are you talking about the desert dawg rain guards? I'm about to pull the trigger on a set, just waiting for this weeks paycheck. How do you like them?
