Default Ape install wire problem :/

Im finally installing the 15" apes on my 2010 Street Bob, everything seemed pretty simple, till I ran into a problem... the wiring!!! I did not remove or mess with the gas tank, I just removed the plastic cover from the bottom and searched for the proper connector... to no avail! I cannot find the damn connectors, and some of them are hard to pull out from bottom. My last resort was to snip and solder, but I'm wondering if anyone else was able to locate the proper wiring without moving the gas tank... Ty in advance!

When i did mine i took the tank off, just made it much easier to get at the wiring and then to tuck it all back in again. Good luck

Damnit, I'm not finding the connectors under the gas tank, and I dont want to cut wires... *cracks knuckles* I guess I'm gonna have to put stuff back and remove the gas tank :T Thank God I still have a few beers in the cooler!

Removing the gas tank isn't going to give you some imaginary window into the backbone. The connectors are in there (the backbone). Just keep fishing the wire out until you find them.

Agreed they are in there. The wires are pretty long. You really don't need to remove the tank to do this job.

Removing the tank WILL make it easier but is not nescessary. Anyway I removed my tank when I did it, and removing the tank is really no big deal. With all the time you already spent you could have removed the tank 10 times and be done

Removing the tank will not make it easier. That's a lot of work.
Remove seat.
Loosen/remove rear tank bolt.
Loosen/remove front tank bolt.
Remove fuel line.
Remove fuel gauge wiring.
Remove dash.
Remove electrical connections that would keep the tank from being fully removed.

-OR-

What you can do is loosen the front of the tank, and lift it to gain some access between the rocker cover and the underside of the backbone.

Although, if you have at least a 2" tank lift already installed you should have more than enough room to get into the access panel underneath the backbone.
