Default Blinkers Troubles

Got out in the garage last night and started trying to track down the issues Im having with the blinkers. I was having 3 issues.

1st, the blinkers were working intermittently (no pun intended, lol).
2nd, the blinker indicators were having the same problems as the blinkers.
3rd, then the blinkers and indicators stopped working altogether.

After some troubleshooting, I found 3 problems.
1. There was a short at the bulb socket of the F/L blinker. Fixed.
2. The rear tire had rubbed the sheath off the wire that goes through the mount bolt for the R/R blinker housing, causing a short. Pulled it off and wired up with test leads for testing, for now. Works.
3. Was poking around in the spagetti wiring underneath the seat and found this little box. Im guessing its fried, because under use it gets really hot and there are two big cracks in the sealing epoxy. It was wired in line with the rear blinker wires. The box has 3 wires coming out of it, 1 to ground, 1 to each blinker wire.

Also, the blinker indicators decided to start working.

I cut the little box out of the wiring and reconnected the wires to factory configuration. When the blinker buttons are pushed, the lights come on solid and dont blink. Im guessing the blinkers on my SuperGlide aren't stock. The little box says equalizer on it. Now, Im thinking that if the blinkers on my bike aren't stock, and those blinkers using smaller light bulbs might draw less load. Thus requiring the use of a "Load Equalizer" like is needed during the use of LED lights. Other than that, I have no clue why the blinkers aren't working. Please help with any thoughts and ideas.

Crappy cell phone pics.

Are you running LEDs? Alot of times folks will put a load equalizer on for them. Are you running a run, stop, and turn signal box?

The blinkers are incandescent. Not sure what you mean by run, stop and turn signal box.

Default What I have found out.

I took the box that says equalizer on it, over to the dealer to talk to the techs about it. They told me that it was indeed a "Load Equalizer" and that since I was running small blinkers with really small sized light bulbs, which in turn do not put enough load on the system to work the blinker relay to work. So I went ahead and ordered a new load equalizer, a Badlands load equalizer II.

I did get a little other work done today too. I go the carb cleaned and put in a new recalibration kit. I havent run it yet because I still need to get the front rocker box seals replaced first.

What year & modle bike are you working on?
How about a pic of those 'tiny' lights you're using.
If they're incandesent bulbs they should opperate on a normal 12 volt system.
