My '03 LR has the OE tail light unit. I understand an LED tail light/brake light would be a lot brighter/safer. To go with LEDs do I have to buy a new tail light unit that is specifically made for them? I can't just replace the IC bulb with an LED? Daylight riding is more of a concern than night. I've looked at the CD website and for me, it's difficult to digest whats-what. Seen the 'Back-Off' unit which seems to be something I want, but I think it's only for an IC bulb set-up. Also there is the complete replacement tail light unit for $150++. Money is tight. I just need the 'bottom line' with these LEDs. What do I need to be a little safer? Thanks.
Thanks. I've made a purchase from them before and it was a clean deal. Does that tail light unit have some sort of electronics in it to run the LEDs??The unit I looked at seems to have two separate functions depending on how you wire it. Run light and then either a Stop light or Turn signals. Price is good too and the company is a sponsor of this forum.
I bought the BAL2, brightest light out there. I have guys who I ride with want me in the rear because of the light. But then at night they want me out front because of my Harley LED front head lights and running lights... until I hit the beaks and then I’m too bright to be up front because of the break light... lol
I was at a local indy shop the other day and seen a complete led tail lamp from drag specialties for 59.00. Looked like a decent unit. easy install (3 wires... no connector) I dont have part number. maybe someone else can pipe in if its worth trying
+1 on the Bright *** Light, I have the smoked version, worth every penny if you ask me. I also put the LED cluster inserts from Custom Dynamics in the stock signal housings out back, those were a very simple, cheap mod, they just plug into the existing socket then pop the lens back on.

Austin Dave, I have mine wired in as a run/stop/directional tail light. You do not have to use the directionals if you do not want to. The light was very easy to install and took me under 30 minutes. The only thing that I have to say that is negative about the light is that it did not have an instructions and none of the wires were labeled as to there function. It was very easy to figure out though....
Thanks. The wiring directions are on the Smoke lens or one of the other colors. I really like the BAL unit but the price!? Out of my league. I've been looking locally for an LED 3157 bulb to replace the IC 3157, but no luck so far......
Bought a new LED taillight from an ebay source. $50+$5 ship-cost. At the HD parts I got a OE wire-connector and 3 wire-terminals ($6). Wired it all up, plugged it in and voila! WAY brighter run-light and brake-light. Also dumped the weird-lookin' air-cleaner SE cover and replaced it with a 2003 Anniversary round cover. About done changing/adding/maintenance stuff....for now anyway.
