OK, guys: Here I am, unfortunately not stateside but still in NLD.

Still having a strong desire to come over to the States once more (was in FLA in 1995 on a 19 days family tour with the wife and kids) though! Riding the Dragon's Tail is one of the items on my "Want to do list".....

Anyone know how long his stay is and where he plans to spend his time? I'm sure the locals there could put together a nice welcome and tour.
Thanks for the kind words, appreciate y'all welcoming me!

I'll let you know for sure when I'm coming over and will try to meet as many good forum members as possible.

Whenever one of you guys is coming over to NLD or Europe, drop me a line and I'll catch it.

Richard and I worked out a meeting but unfortunately his schedule was changed...I still owe him some real HEINEKEN for helping me last year

Had the pleasure of meeting good old Forum member SPRINGER and his GF GermanLadyrider last March. Check out this post for some more info on this visit:

Knowing it's way around over here, it was an easy job for the Mascot to lead Gary to Wuppertall in Germany, where he stayed with his friend german ladyrider.

From there the Mascot lead the two of them to Raalte in the Netherlands to visit the American Motorcycle Museum. It was there were I met them March 25-2011 11.00 am.

After a good chat over two cups of coffee we visited the Museum where we traveled through MoCo's history, admiring the many models from the owner's private collection.

One of Gary's goals for this European trip was to enjoy typical European food, so we decided to have lunch and ordered Frenchs fries and sateh (grilled porc with spicy peanut butter sauce):

After lunch it was time to do a proper Mascot hand-over:

It was really great to meet you Regine & Gary!

I hope we'll meet again.....
Best regards and ride safe,

Hey Rene
Ewa and I were talking about doing a fly-n-ride next year, need to start thinking about the best place to go for a 3-5 day road trip, and where to get the best deal on a geezer glide for the trip. Would be great if you could join for all or part.

Sounds great to me, Rich. What time of year and countries to visit you're thinking of?

I know you can rent a bike at some H-D dealers over here in Europe. Eaglerider Europe could be another option.

I'll try to find some info for you later this week.

Usually late July early August, I sent request a quote for shipping mine over and back, curious to see how that compares to renting for a week.
No decision on just where...yet

Rich,

here's a link to the thread started by Forum member extsieg who shipped his bike on a plane from Canada to Paris in France....

Europe Bound; how to ship my Motorcycle?

He is in Germany right now.

Bottom line:
  • he had to ride to Toronto (Canada) to be able to get his bike on a plane to Europe
  • flying in your bike and stay in Europe for about five days will not be cost effective

Some links:

http://www.eaglerider.com/harley-davidson-rentals.aspx

To get an idea on rental bikes/prices from a H-D dealer in the Netherlands,
click this link and choose some dates to find out. It's about Euro 100 a day (~ USD 145.00).

Compared to USA, gas prices are high, ~ USD 2.31 a liter (~ 6.00 USD a gallon) which will take you ~ 18 km (~11 miles)

In other words, one full tank (17 ltr = 4.5 gallon) on my FXD gives me ~320km (~ 200 miles) and will cost ~ USD 40.00

For general info on renting a H-D in Europe click this link.

To find prices of hotels please check www.booking.com

If you need any route/trip info (files for gps) just let me know...I've got tons of it!

Damn Rene, you are the man!
Thanks for the info, will start checking it out and try to get a game plan together later this year, the few places I checked are not booking anything that far in the future.
Also looked at air fares and we can save a tom by doing the trip in October.
Ewa is really favoring southern France.

If you come up further North at that time of year riding conditions are not that good.

Please check Google for climate information before you decide where to go....

Did the European tour with wife two years ago, Frankfurt Ger Fly and ride, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, back over to Lake Geneva, Switzerland, France, Normandy, up through low countries back to Frankfurt, 3600k miles. Stop at the American (Allies too)cemetery in Normandy, stop in Paris (France most MC friendly country in the world). Great rid, but remember Western Europe is geographically smallish and densely populated. Don't drink and ride, not even hangover and ride. Will do again as soon as economies stabilize. Alps are great ride, will do south france next time as well as souther Italy, France, Spain, have to think about Portugal as they are the South American drivers of Europe, they scare me.

In July August watch out for 42 foot campers being pulled by a Yugo, its Vacation time and Europeans are serious about their Vacations

To plan the trip you could use the maps at http://www.viamichelin.com/web/Maps. All scenic routes have the "green line".....this is how I plan my rides...
