I am another rider that has had wheel bearing trouble on my 09 super glide custom. I took it in to dealer with 9,700 mi and had rear tire replaced. took it back in 1 week later for the 10,000 mi service. I rode it about 3 weeks and the rear wheel bearing locked up and broke the hub on wheel. Had to argue a bit but harley did cover the wheel. My extended warrenty covered the bearings. But the dealer wants me to pay them $85.00 to put tire on new wheel and pay for a spacer. I am thinkn HARLEY NEEDS TO BUCK UP AND RECALL THEESE BEARINGS BEFORE SOMEONE GET'S HURT OR EVEN WORSE KILLED. I am telling you it happened very fast and NO WARNING. IS THERE ANY BODY OUT THERE KNOW WHERE I AM COMMING FROM ???????? THANK'S FOR LISTENING TO ME !!!!!! RIDE SAFE
My rear bearing went out on my 09 Fatbob with about 10,000 miles 2 weeks shy of my 2 year warrenty. Bike started getting a wobble while me and the wife were on a ride and pulled over. Didn't mess up the wheel but the dealer replaced it under warrenty that same day. Must have been a bad batch of bearings because 10,000 miles does not seem like much.

These are supposed to be 100,000 mile bearings!
I see recommendations to change bearings at every other tire change but 10 thousand miles is way too early.
What crap are we riding on?
Harley has been at this a long time. I have to believe that at least some of these failures are due to installation error after replacing tire... axle nut too tight, spacers swapped, etc.
Good point on the torque but bearing failure seems to happening much too early in this forum.
Who has the better bearings to install.
I see low cost bearings on Ebay but something as important as the bearings demands the best.
Any ideas who has the best bearings for this application given the existing bores.

The low cost bearings work as well as the stock HD ones. How could they be worse? 100,00 miles turns out to be more like 40,000-50,000 in the real world.
