i picked a detachable quick realese for a trip a month ago, and love it--probably wont be detaching it much. seems to make huge difference for me. i can hear my bike on the highway (with half helmet) instead of just windnoise.
StevenTammy, after a few days, what do you think? I was considering purchasing one for my 2011 FXDWG. Probably from the same dealer! Got a trip coming up at the end of the month and thought it might help. Let me know!

Hi Firemedic,
Well, I would say it makes a difference but it's not as much as on many other HD's...
I'm certain it's the fact that the shield itself is so far foward of us, the passenger.
And again, the rake doesnt help.
Worth it to find one on the cheap
I have a Memphis shades I put on if I know it is going to be windy or if I know I will be riding over the bridges here around town. I notice it pushes the wind over me and help a lot. On the occasions I ride over the bridges without my windshield then it can be quite the ride, lol
I live in Charleston, SC and we have three big bridges that are high enough to let the big freighters into port so it can be windy and throw in a fast moving 18 wheeler and you're lane dancing, lol
I have the detachable on my '11 WG also, and found it does make a difference. Had wondered if a set of lower-fork air deflectors would help, but couldn't find any. I made a set that attach to the detachable windshield hardware and it has made a huge difference. Without the deflectors, the wind coming up underneath would literally try to blow my shirt up and over my head. I still get some wind from underneath, but it's way more acceptable. Using the windshield in the rain is a no-brainer.
I have the HD quick detach windshield on my 08 wide glide and it definitely makes a difference but wind coming underneath it created a lot of turbulence up around my head.
I installed memphis shades lowers and they made a big difference. Not sure I like the look but for long trips at highway speeds; looks become a lot less important to me!
I think windshields have there place. For local riding the winshield is off. But when on a long trek or hitting the highway shield is on. On the highway withouy the shield off my 1/2 helmet wants to choke me and fly off my head. Not to mention death grip holding on at 85mph. I am running a Memphis Shades quick release shield and it helps with headwind. My helmet stays on. The only thing you have to contend with is wind from under the tank comming up. Its a compramise. Rather that then having to hold on for dear life.
