I had the P0108 MAP sensor high code, so replaced it ($37) and that finally solved my runaway idle problem. This was after replacing the AIC and TPS to no avail. That's when I discovered how to read the codes. That saved me a lot more grief.

Dang, entering a hairpin turn and out-of-the-blue having the engine not slow down was a puckering event as I crossed way over into the oncoming lane and almost went off the road into the rocks.

What exactly is the Map Sensor? I looked for it in the shop manual, but I'm missing something. The speedo gave me a part number, but from what I can tell, the part number it gave me is the ECM firmware: 32384-06.

One more thing, when the sensors start going out, it is a sporadic event. You just never know when it happen a again, but over time it does continue to get worse.

Replacing the sensors is not that difficult, just don't follow the manual. The manual will have you removing way more parts than necessary.

Just remove the air cleaner it's backing plate. Depending on what sensor you are replacing, I've had to undo the QD fuel hose, raise the rear of the tank and undo the right side engine brace and rotate it out of the way, a 5 minute job. Most of the sensors can be removed without further disassembly. The MAP sensor removal will require removing the two screws for the throttle cable bracket which has a protrusion on it holding down the MAP sensor, but you just need to lift it up enough to wriggle out the sensor. A ten minute job. No need to remove anything else.

It also would be a good idea to get a new backing plate to throttle body gasket as they can tear upon removal. I have used RTV to repair this gasket, but just be sure to wipe out any seepage in the intake air's path and allow it to set over night, then wipe or trim it out again. You don't want the stuff clogging anything.

My bike is an '07 and the MAP sensor (manifold absolute pressure sensor) part number was 32316-99, but was superseded by part number 32417-10 for three times the cost ($108).

Just check out Ronnie's HD for the MAP sensor part number (in the exploded views) and phone in your order. When I ordered mine online it took them a week to get back to me just to clarify what bike I had. Then another day was wasted before I could email them back. I think the problem was that the part number was obsolete and they needed to order me the correct one.

Your local Harley dealer can probably sort this out and maybe even have it in stock.

I found the procedure for removing the MAP sensor in the manual, and I agree, there is no need to remove the entire induction module. I will test it, and replace if needed. Thanks for the help. I'll report back.

I'm starting to long for days of old when a new set of points and plugs, a timing light, dwell meter and carb adjustment would solve most problems.

Thanks for the part numbers and all the information. I test rode the bike about thirty miles this morning and it didn't cough, sputter, hesitate, or anything thing else related to the problem I have been having. I rechecked the diagnostics, and no codes were kicked during my test run this morning. As I noted, this problem has been intermittent. I plan to put about 500 miles on it this weekend provided it continues to run . If and when it acts up during my ride, I will check codes and report anything new.

Yeah, that's Zonotti, I tried them first, but couldn't get the entered part number to work for me. They are my first choice for finding the best prices.

Well, I put 495 miles on the bike this weekend and had no issues whatsoever. Most of the miles this weekend were twisties, but there were enough prolonged periods of interstate riding that if the problem would have occurred, I would have had ample opportunity to notice it. I hate troubleshooting intermittent problems.

On the plus side, I had a great ride through Idyllwild, up to Big Bear, and over through Angeles Crest highway. Now that I'm back to commuting, maybe the problem will come back.
