I am 30 and started riding a few years ago on a sportster. I am 180 lbs wet and 6'3. The first time I rode the bike I felt I was going to fly off. A couple of years later I got a street bob and it has become second nature even with the larger engine. I was in a bad car accident hit by a drunk driver and left me with some severe back problems so I ended up getting the stock seat modified and I haven't looked back. Get the street bob and you won't regret it. If you are willing to wait you could get a pre owned one during the winter. I remember last year I saw several ones a few years old for around 9k with almost no miles. Now if you ask me if I could back I would have bought a pre owned bike from a member of this forum. There were some great deals last winter. And if the economy really hasn't improved then we will be seeing better deals this year.

I got myself enrolled in the motor cycle safety course so I can get an endorsement. Then its off to Seattle Downtown HD to rent a few bikes before making my decision on which bike to get. Still leaning toward the Street Bob or a Wide Glide. Thanks for the input.

I will be 55 in Nov..and 5 years ago i bought an 06 Bob after being out of the saddle for 21 years. Gotta say it feels great! The bob is a damn nice bike..don't let 'em badger into a geezer glide..at least until ya hit 65 or so. Be careful..they've invented something called the "cellphone" since back in the day when i rode my 79 Sporty..and it makes us all even more invisible than before! Good luck..and welcome back!

I turned 60 in June and traded my bagger (2007 Road King Classic) for a 2011 Super Glide Custom. Why? The bagger was boring. Might as well take the car. I had an Electra Glide about 10 years ago, and sold it for the same reason. Guess my memory was bad because I thought I wanted another bagger so I bought the Road King. Had it one year and got rid of it. For 95% of most people's riding, baggers are overkill. I'm having a blast on my FXDC. A lot of fun for everyday riding, and will handle a 500 mile or cross country trip as well.

My son is 6'5" and has rode his 06 Street Bob all over the North American continent with out any issue. He never even went to forward controls.

The pic is him on our way to Key West last year.

I had plans for a 50th b-day bike too. Took the MSF course as a 49th b-day present. Made it a month before I had to buy a bike. I had the time, license in hand. Watch local Craigslists and hit a good deal.

Semper Fi!

Actually it's now Downtown Harley Davidson of Renton, (even though it's not in downtown Renton).
Got my Harley when I turned 50, that was 6 years ago.

An honest and refreshing perspective. Nice post
