When I wrecked my sporty a few years back, everyone was telling me to go by a truck or a car because I don't have one that I can use daily. They think I am crazy cause I ride year round. For two weeks I went back and forth as to if I was going to buy the bike back and build a custom with it or just let it go. I decided to just let it go and that wasn't easy. But to help smooth the transition to a new bike I was also looking at different bikes that I liked and could afford. When the insurance company gave me my check for the bike I went to the bank and deposited it and then went straight to the dealership. I was the owner of my current Street Bob about two hours after the dealer closed its doors for the night. before I picked it up the next day I had all the parts ordered to start makin it my bike and not a stock bike.
That was a year and a half ago and 20k miles later and I still don't have a car or truck to call my own. I didn't want to wait to long (two weeks) to get back on the road, i figured the longer I waited the more likely I was going to buy a car or truck and end up putting a bike on the back burner. A day doesn't go by where I'm not glade I got the bike.
So get back out there on a new bike ASAP, every mile you put on it is a mile you can call your own on our new friend. You'll love the new bike and never forget your old one.
damn, he loved the bike and we got people hating on him. obviously 2 of the posters have never loved a damn thing in their miserable lives
You might want to look up the definition of the word "hate". Nobody showed any hate at all; they simply pointed out that while he loves it, it's not a living, breathing thing with a soul that loves back.
I concur. Good grief man, get another one and be glad you're OK and insured.
i didnt see any hate either, glad you got insurance , really glad your not hurt, liked the dog anaology, feel ya there bud. i love my bikes man, but this is just the one i got till i buy another.. it will pass..
Wow, I don't get it! It's a piece of metal. It's not a pet, a friend, your life, your house burning down with everything you own inside or a loved one that you lost. It's a friggen bike that you put a lot of effort into & you will do it again. The other things I mentioned, you can't bring them back. A bike, you can replace. Move on. As far as the HDF condolence responses, WTF!
EDIT. 10 minutes after I posted the above I got a phone call. One of my old friends & a golfing & music buddy was just found dead at his house. He hung himself. None of us know why.
Put things in perspective.
