+1 Only precaution I take is changing the fluids at both 500 and 1000 miles to get any shavings out as early as possible.

If you baby it during the first 1k you shock it if you then decide to ride it like you stole it.

Ever notice how a motor tends to settle into a certain RPM range, car or bike?

It's pretty simple to me follow the owners manual's instructions. The MoCo should know best about the engine they designed and built.

I was told by my dealer that the reason the break in recommendations are so gentle is that its a liability issue with HD. they told me just be easy for the first 250 or so. I increased RPMs and got on it a little more each time after that. After 500 I just rode it normal varying the RPM's . At 750 I rode 325 miles to my dealer at 80 and 90 MPH on the hwys and it did great. I rode it home normal (normal for me) after the service and I have not had one issue with the bike since. Runs like a scalded ape . Doesn't burn any excess oil at all. You will be able to feel what the bike wants. Mine just wanted to go.
