Man, this saga just continues. Some may remember back in July when my SEII's went for slide down the road due to the Stealer not riviting them to the pipes. Well, I really think it wasn't meant to be that I own these prixs.
I've been noticing when I decel that I'm getting a loud vibration, annoying as hell. I finally decided this morning to check it out. I narrow it down to the upper SE II. I take it off and low and behold, whatever is between the baffle and the pipe is loose, really loose. Before anyone tells me it's the flapper inside or the steel mesh of the baffle that you can see, sliding against the pipe. WRONG! I would imagine that these are made just like a car muffler with the guts being inside, ey? I hold the SE II on both ends and shake it, it just rattles away.
I decide to get a good laugh in spite of my pizzed off mood, and call a local stealer. I ask the parts guy if SEII's are warrantied. His response is, "They're obsolete" My ever pleasant demeanor, I say, " No chit!" He checks on it, comes back on the phone and says, " warrantied for 90 days" Me, "Super!" I've had mine since July.
While I'm bitchin', I may as well throw this out there. The $120.00 end caps, they are JUNK too. I keep my chit clean, spotless actually. This is what my caps look like underneath.
Notice the pitted high quality chrome? I'm going riding! Tim
o buy the way my SE II always seem to work lost too . but my end caps have not done that yet . i have the same setup .. but my baffles come out of my pipes
Sorry you are having the problems with your SEII's. You know we all like it when somebody else has a problem to share........ Makes us feel better.
Knock-on-wood........ Everything that I have purchased from HD has very good (top notch), except my FXDI......... I am afraid to start listing all the "minor" flaws, the list would get too long. Did you know the Japanese built a Harley Davidson Motorcycle, starting in the 1930's???, and continued to build it until about 1958.
Check it out........... Rikuo.
Drawings and blueprints were provided by Harley-Davidson.
Timmer: Sorry to hear that. But my SEII's are perfect. However, if you wash your bike with SEII's you need to start it afterwards and let it get hot enough to burn off all the moisture in the joints or you will get super corrosion. My dealer's wrench told me this and apparently it's true.
Wow! How did I know that the majority of people that would post, would say that they haven't had any problems with theirs?[sm=headbang.gif] Something like this is just my luck.
Neon, parden the pun, but I'm just going to ride these out for a while. Can't swing buying a new set of pipes for a while.

Gee Kev, thanks for that tip Tim
Did you think about going on ebay and seeing if you can get a used set for a reasonable discount (compared to new)?
Todd, it ain't happenin'. I'll put the cash away towards a set of V&H's or Pythons. I can deal with the jingle-jangle for now. I probably only have 4-5 days, top's, to ride this year with 'ol man winter coming. I have to purchase the SERT after the holidays. If you notice that dark residue on my caps, I need it. That's another Stealer deal. They told me that I wouldn't need the SERT with the slipon's and high flow. It sure in the hell looks like it's burning a tad rich to me, ey? Tim
