damn you pay someone to change your oil, guess me doing it in the parking lot at auto zone is sacreligous.. this is my 1 k service.. lol.. mobil 1 folks
facilities to do your own oil changes???? you need proper fitting wrench to loosen drain plug and something to catch the oil yo.
That's what I was thinking........Hell I've changed mine in the living-room of my apartment before on rainy days, when I could not go riding (besides the apartment management doesn't want us working on our stuff in the parking lot), so I don't.
Only problem now is I moved and I live on the second floor, the bike hangs up on the last (top) step, since I lowered it.
How come a post like this always inspires some of you to elaborate on your own maintenance practices? "I change my own oil...using only a salad fork and a rubber band...!" Hee Hee....."
To you I ask, where do you dispose of your waste fluids? In my area there is no easy way of going about it, unless you really don't care what waste facility you improperly contaminate. If ya get caught, the fine is way more money than the 99 dollar change special at my local dealer.
BTW, not to sound like everyone else, but everything else on my bike, I do myself, and all mods and extras were done by me and me alone. I have the tools and the facilities for that. Except for the motor mount replacement done under warranty about 3 years ago.
I did get the special done, and thanks to those who chimed in about Red Line, I went with all 3 fluids replaced with Red Line. The bike purrs and seems to be just a subtle bit smoother at idle. I have always run Amsoil, except for the oil changes Black Hills HD did when I got to Sturgis on 2008. They had a seperate tent for those who wanted the oil done after the haul. 25 bucks. Couldn't beat it. The bike definately ran hotter with the organic HD oil I must say as well. Before I left Sturgis, I had it changed again with Amsoil, and the cooler operation was restored.
All oil is not created equal.
...and I'll be moving to Costa Rica tomorrow, so wahooooo on my never ending riding season. J/K
I've been changing over to Redline products. The tranny was the first with there shock proof making a diff. Just did the primary yesterday and still hace one more oil change left with mobil1 vtwin.
Well changing it in the parkinglot of your local auto parts store has its pluses,
Donate 2.00 drip pan to next brother that needs it.
They will take your used oil also. Done deal .
