Default risers vs. taller apes?

I have an 06 street bob with stock apes painted black. I've been thinking of going a little taller, 14"-16", and I like the idea of internal wiring. I know there are various kits available. There's one on ebay from Demon's that looks solid for $320. It excludes brake and clutch cable and I would need new grips, too.

My risers are presently 2". I'm wondering if I should just do 4.5" risers, forget about the internal wiring, and save some money. I think I would just need new throttle cables, too???

To complicate things, my front brake master cylinder reservoir is corroded and is weeping fluid, as they all do eventually it seems. I know I could fix this with a new lid/gasket for $20. That said, I kit with new bars would replace the reservoir.

I'd like to do this work myself, whatever I do. I'm not super handy, but I have a neighbor and a buddy who is a snap on tools guy who is.

I appreciate feedback and advice on what route to go!

go with taller bars , internal wiring aint that bad....jacking up short bars on tall risers doesn't look good imo

IMO the taller the bars the shorter the rises.
Saving a buck seldom works for me.
I’ve done the taller bars both ways.
Learned my lesson.
If I do it right the first time I have no regrets.
No do overs.

I was questioning the same thing but my bars are less than a month old and were a pia to internal wire but now wishing I went taller im thinking of 3" risers on 13" bars

Tall risers set your bars in a position but tall bars can be rotated for and aft to suit your riding comfort.

I recently put 4" risers on with stock mini-apes on my Wide Glide. They fit perfectly and were on in minutes. No cable changes were needed, but I had to undo the brake cable attachment from the tree. I think 4" may be the highest to go with apes. You could always attach a fork bag to the risers to hide their height, if need be.

I put a 4" angled riser on my stock bars. The comfort level is great and the angled riser let's me keep the bars looking like they are straight up. And the riser isn't visible due to my little tool bag on. Very comfortable. Function over fashion. I can ride in my dyna for 1000 miles and no added fatigue and did I mention comfort. Jmo
