I have a 2006 Wide Glide (EFI) and I want to remove the tank so I can store the bike in my basement with no worries. The service manual says to remove the spedo and trim is this right or can I just remove the tank as a assembly if so do I just remove 2 bolt, the fuel line and a few connectors. Thanks
You will need to remove the console to disconnect the wires, there is no connector in the frame for the gauges like there is for the bars.
Not sure why you would remove the tank, just run it out of gas. If you are that concerned purge the tank with CO2 or something, should be easier than actually removing it.
I think the issue is he doesn't want any gas in it while in his basement.
could be, I figured he was worried it will go bad over time. Still, I don't think there should be any concern with gas in the tank while in a basement. Not much different than storing in the garage I would assume.
Yes the reason is I don't want to take a chance with the fuel in the basement. For 5 years never worried, but since the bike is getting a little older like me I am concerned.I thought you should not let the tank be empty durning the winter,is this OK to do?What do you think?.
Tanks sit empty all the time in shops. Personally I would not worry about it, nor would I drain it. Bound to be one or 2 good riding days in the winter, and I always take advantage of them when possible. Have had some really good rides on Christmas Day even.
You should be good as long as you don't have any fuel leaks. If there is any issue it would be from a water heater, furnace, or anything that has a standing pilot light. Make sure you have some ventilation and you "should" be fine...
Thanks I still have concerns because I do have a standing pilot light on my hot water heater.I don't have any fuel problems that I can see or smell.so you think pulling the tank off is a wast of time?
