on my cruisers ive always worn novelty half shell or 3/4(biltwell) but i have also always owned a full face for cooler/crappy weather. right now i wear a shoei rf1000
Shoei Neotec Modular Helmet. I've previously always worn high-end full face and this is my first slight concession to convenience.
My background is both dirt and track days and I've taken too many hits and worn off too much gelcoat at the front to wear a helmet without chin protection. Granted, my riding style on the HD is considerably milder, so the risk is less.

And, I don't care what others do. It's all good.
How loud is it and how does it vent in hot weather?
when it gets cold (40 and below) i wear a fullface.
what's the difference between the half helmet and no helmet.....$400,000. yes, surprisingly the half helmet is DOT approved. military life insurance requires a DOT approved helmet.
I have a HD 1/2 helmet, I normally just use this for quick runs as I hate the wind lifting it at highway speeds.
Have a HD Modular for when weather is shitty, my most used and favorite helmet is a Bell 500 3/4.
I wish snell was the top of the line safety standard in Italy/Europe. But if your helmet is ONLY snell you will get a ticket (although checking if it is ECE or not is rarely conducted). They have what is called the ECE regulation and it apparently surpasses snell. freaking eurotrash bums.
It doesn't surpass SNELL per se, it's simply a different approval type. There are helmets that pass both ECE & SNELL, but they are high-end.
I'm surprised there are helmets sold in Europe that (designed for safety in mind) actually DON'T have ECE approval. It's like DOT here.
Next time I'm ready to buy, if I can find a DOT, ECE AND SNELL, that would be really cool.
I've got few rides and a few different helmets. I'll wear whatever for different weather conditions. I've got a couple Arai Corsair ff's, a couple Daytona 3/4's w/various 3 snap shields if needbe (rain and/or heavy squadrons of bugs), a Vega 1/2 & the Wiley X goggles system...
My current lid is the Icon Airframe. Aboslutely love this helmet. The finish gets dinged up a little to easy though. Plan to get a skid lid in the not so distant future.
