Default Setting up my 2000 FXDX

Thought I would share my latest project...
Bought a used 2000 FXDX in early August and I'm finally getting it setup with my tastes. Ya I know bags and a windshield on a dyna sport, but what the heck it fits me.

The original owner build the TC 88 into a 95 with forged 10.5:1 pistons, SE high flow headers and S&S direct drive 585 cams with a 44mm SE carb.

I put on a true track, changed the rims, installed vivid black floating rotors, removed the rear pegs, installed a set of boss bags. Upgraded to works black tracker shocks and serviced the front forks with SE grade oil. Removed the old classic turn signals and just used mirrors with integrated turn signals up front and a license plate bracket for bullets in the back and a LED brake light. Upgraded to a LePera Silhouette Solo Deluxe seat (love it) and installed a cut down black windshield. I also installed extended reach forward controls. Finally, installed a heavy breather.

The exhaust is a bit scratched up from the previous owner falling over so I am seriously thinking of changing the exhaust to a LSR-2 style C in either black or titanium ceramic. One of those winter projects.

Also on the list is handle bars and possible progressive springs up front.

After that maybe from more black paint, but I'll sleep on that

Looks good ! Is that your actual exhaust or the heat shields ? If you don't have the money for powder, AutoZone sells some 2000* F. heat paint in Black. I wish I had known that when I painted mine with Rustoluem 1200* black, but so far mine has only scuffed where my boot sits against it.

Make sure you sand um with some 200 grit (straight lines) to paint um.

Here's mine,

NICE BIKE !! I just picked up a 2005 FXDX. (now I gotta sell my STURGIS FXB) I had the truetrack on my last DYNA but didnt really notice a difference,do you ? had the RB racing LSR's and the WORKS black trackers also(loved em) I went with the WORKS triple rate springs in the front as well. what kind of exhaust is that? if you want to sell it I might be interested.

They are Rinehart 2:1's. The heat shields are fine. The back muffer and front tube is scuffed from being laid down. No dents in them. I could sand them out and re powder coat them. Originally they where chrome and the previous owner had them powder coated.

Do notice then truetrack especially in long sweeping curves with heavy throttle. I need the vibration motor mount fix though.

If I replace the exhast you are welcome to buy. Probably only worth a few bucks over shipping though as it would need some work to may them look nice...

Wish I could figure out the brake light - rear turn signal issue I have. I installed the brake - turn signal kit to light up the rear turn signals with the brake light, but I don't think it is compatible with my year (2000). The turn signals stop blinking when the brake is applied and also hesitate when blinking. If I remove the brake-rear turn module it works OK, but w/o the rear turns as running lights....

Nice Super Sport PhotoRider. Few mods already done from stock, what sort of tool bag is that?

Cheers.

Great ride, PR. Big fan of the FXDX. My first bike. I just can't see my way clear to give ya a pass on the windshield and bags, though. Really??? Still, like the bike. I don't think that I'd even be in a big hurry to swap out the pipes. The scratch would definitely annoy me, but I'd be able to live with it for a while if it took some time to find what I wanted to replace them with. Enjoy.
