You would think the factory could figure out how to mount the tank so it doesn't loosen up.

The problem with the tank is that there is a very small amount of clearance between the tank bolts and the frame sleeve I.D. so if the tank isn't real snug it will 'move' inside this sleeve and make the clunk sound.

I've heard of guys putting some sort of wood shim like a shaved match stick wedged inside between the tank bolt and the sleeve. But basically you just have to keep the bolts snug.

must of been something with that bike because my 07 had the exact same thing, makes me keep checking it now... but learned to check easy stuff first before expensive stuff haha.
