Just read a looooong article on steering head shake due to the bearings not being adjusted properly or worn. It said even a small turn of the nut can make the bike shake like crazy! Also my manual says that they need to be checked every 25000 miles I think.

Front end wobbles don't always start there! Could be as simple as neck bearings out of adjustment, as Redcrow suggests. They may also be worn and need replacement, but that should be obvious when you adjust them. Check both tyre pressures, also condition of the tyres. If they are very old, or have any unusual wear patterns (flat in the centre for example), replace them for new ones. Also check wheel alignment. Any of these can have unwelcome affects on handling.

Have you changed the handlebars recently?

If you have a spoked rear rim, check your spokes for loose ones. Loose spokes can cause a wobble.

Could be simple as (re-) balancing the front wheel.

Tire pressure?
Fall away out of adjustment?
Wheel weights fall off?
Just a good start anyway.

loose rear spokes will cause the shake as 95c stated.
