I want to make saddlebags for my Street Bob that I don't have to relocate my tail lights and that aren't through over. Any Ideas? I think they can strap to the rear fender strut.
I have made a leather belt and leather wallet many years ago, but it would be challenging and fun attempt to make large, custom saddle bags. I think I could do it, though... tooling up would be expensive, though.
They can strap through the fender struts. As with anything the design and quality will depend on the material used. I made a pair out of rough finish leather that were fastened to the struts and they wore OK. I made a set of throw overs witch I use for local and short runs. I plan on making my next pair (real soon) out of saddle leather. Yes it is a hobby of love as there is more time and money involved with making a really good pair to begin with, although it is worth it in the long run.
My biggest problem on mine have been the fact that I moved my tail light down on the left-side of the swingarm and I have to watch how they fit so not to block the light.
I'm thinking if you have the were-with-all to hand make saddlebags from scratch, you probablly have the talent to relocate some turn signals and actually mount the hand made bags correctly......just say'in.
these guys have a lineup of bags that do what your asking....just buy one left and one right or just go solo style....the choice is yours. http://www.badgcustoms.net/solo-bags.html
I do believe that getting a rear rack and something like a bikers friend bag will offer more storage room though.
