Yeah the wideglide is great, If you are planing riding two up you have to consider adding the passanger pegs to the bob the seat, although the stock wideglide seat is not going to be great for your passenger for anything to far it will do for a minute. If you are planning on a ton of two up the switchback or going to a heritage softail classic, or deluxe.. Or buy a wideglide and put all the detach stuff on and it will tour two up just fine, My wife and I do it now regularly. The fatbob would tour great as well just because the bigger wheel up front and the dual disc will stop it a lot better. A friend I ride with has one and his suspension feels smoother than my widglide I still do not know why this is.. He weighs the same and I can bottom out my rear shocks on 4 and he has his on 1 and has never hit bottom. The fatbob comes with forward controls, and it actually ended up looking pretty good with a set of 14" apes, I was worried it would not look right but with a fat 1-1/4 inch or 1-1/2 inch bar it looked killer... But ride them all thats why we get to test ride them I always loved my dyna's and I have owned a Lowrider, Electraglide classic and now the WG and I will have to say when you climb on a dyna things can get pretty sporty. Especially that fatbob that thing is on rails at any speed in the twisties it seems like
I'm pretty happy with my little 96" big twin. I haven't even gotten into the stage 1 stuff yet, bike has plenty of pull for me stock.
Consider all the additional costs of a bike over MSRP such as: dealer set up, freight, tax title and license. That's without even getting into the "harley tax" for stage 1 intake, performance exhaust, re-map or power commander, tuning and a seat you're old lady will actually ride on. Not to mention a back rest, windshield, and forward controls if that's what you're into... I'm assuming you are because you mention the Switch Back. So that extra $1500 saved is going to go back into Harley's coffers pretty quickly by buying a more budget minded bike. It's a false economy if you don't want your bike to be stock to buy the "cheap" model.
I'm lucky, the bike I wanted for years happened to be the "budget" model in the current line up. If Harley still made the FXR or the Dyna Superglide Sport than I would have had issues deciding based on my budget.
If you're billfold or plastic rich... all the mods can be added to your bottom line...out the door.
Just take the time to sit down with one of their "Experts" and/or get a hold of the '12 custom catalog and make your choices....You'll be like a kid in a candy shop with a pocket full of quarters!
2 up id go with that new gorgeous red FXDC man is that nice. Id go broke or id trade in my 11 for this 12. 1 up its really hard to beat the Streetbob. It is light , nimble, flies through mountain passes at 80+ MPH no sweat and man its the most fun ive had on two wheels in years. I like the Wide Glide as well but cant see ponying up the extra cash when you could get an FXDC or a Bob for so much less. A set of adjustable hwy pegs for comfort with the mid controls and your good to go. I might just have to get the tank on my SB painted red.. the mods never end ... what fun.
I've test driven nearly every Dyna which was available and ended up with the Super Glide Custom. You have to find out for yourself what YOU like ! That's the beauty with HD, it has a bike for each personal style, preferences and needs. If I had the money, I would ADD the new Softtail Deluxe to my garage. The FXDC for riding alone and really enjoy the twists and turns norwegian roads throw at me and the Softtail to ride with company on the back for longer trips.
I never bought anything new in my whole life never even considered it.
Can't even count how many bikes and cars I have had.
I paid cash for a brand new switchback and waited two months for a black one.
only thing I hate is the pipe 250 from HD to make that work
I love my bike
