Hey guys…I’m pretty new to Harley’s and I wanted to get some input. I’ve been looking for a bike and came across this one. It’s a 1998 FXDL Dyna Lowrider. Here is the description the guy put in his ad: Garage Kept and kept clean. Lots of Chrome. 10,600 original miles. I also have a windshield and bags that come with the bike but not currently on the bike. Asking $7500
What do you guys think? Good deal or not? Plus or minuses about the lowrider? How popular is the lowrider and are there a lot of available accessories?
It's a good deal. An 80" evo with the 5 speed and updated clutch is a proven, reliable setup. The only upgrade to consider for increased reliability is to replace the origninal INA cam bearing for a Torrington cam bearing. Besides that, your good to go for a very, very long time.
the 98's are still new enough that you csan get a ton of aftermarket parts available for it to set it up the way you want, without having to fabricate anything.
Also, there are excellent engine upgrade packages available to wake the beast up!
With just enough mileage on it to break it in. If it's been sitting a while though it may need a good cleaning out before you do any serious riding. I'm going to start replacing lines on mine that had old fuel in them from before i bought it.
The dyna family is a trong family in the Harley lineup. They're powered by the "big twin" compared to the slightly smaller engines of the sportster. They have tons of accessories for all yours that enable you to customize them (bags, windshields, chromies, etc) to get exactly like you like it.
The lowrider has a lower center of gravity than the others in the Dyna line (except maybe the wide glide) has pleanty of power for its size and shares a lot of the agility the sportster guys go for. All in all a very well rounded bike and that sounds like a great deal. Look into and see if you like it in person. The price is definately a selling point.
Take it to a HD dealer and for $50-100 they will check out the whole bike. Ask the owner for service records. But the price is not bad with that low mileage. You will like the low rider.
i have a 95 and got it with 7700 on it it sounds like a good deal and i love mine now have about 32000 on mine and love it bought it about 4 or 5 years ago. I f it is from a dealer get a 3 year warrenty and you cannot go wrong. It is great
GREAT DEAL!
I bought my '98 FXDS with 11,000 miles (salvage bike) for $6,800, at the time it had a KBB value of $10,000. It only needed $150.00 worth of parts to get it on the road and it lasted all summer.
I checked NADA for your bike and they say it's worth $7,265, where as KBB says it's worth $8,365.
