Im here in Afghanistan. I ordered a Roadking from the military Harley sales. Out the door was $16783. But now Im having second thoughts. I dont know if I want a touring bike since I dont tour. I am thinking Softail or Dyna. Now a Streetbob and Superglide Custom are both $12708 and the Blackline is $15073. I will customize whatever I get. So Im leaning towards a Superglide for the price and it already has the chrome engine parts. The bike will be Black and Chrome. And I wont be home till Aug and will get a free upgrade to a 2013 if im past the last day to pick it up. So......
I went from a Superglide to a Streetglide. Just becasue it's "touring" doesn't mean it can't do everything.
If cost is the concern, then get the Superglide custom. If you can afford it, get a Streetglide with ABS and cruise.
If you get anything else besides the Streetglide, you WILL end up in time, trading it in, so you might as well get the streetglide NOW.
The blue is a cool color BTW.
Other idea is to get a Ultra limited, and then take the tour pak off and change the seat out. Then, you have all the goodies, and the tour pak can be sold, like on eBay to recoup costs.

Since Aug is a long way off, I'd take the time to make up my mind what I want. What is the deal with this 'military Harley sales' place? I mean is it a middle-man sales entity for a/any HD dealership? I'd check it out before committing anything legal or monetary with it/them. Be careful.

I bought my bike through the Exchange Auto program also. As deployed military members we bascially get a little bit off of the MSRP from Harley depending on what promotions are going. I purchased my Wide Glide which was a cancelled order from someone else at about $1500 less than MSRP. You still have to pay taxes when you get back to the states and pick it up. Now the car manufactures give all kinds of discounts, you can literally get a car for thousands less than you would in the states. Its a legit program, but I think a lot of junior guys get suckered into getting something they dont need or cant afford.
I have a Super Glide and am very happy with it. Drove the Blackline as mine was in the garage for service. Didn't like the steering, but the engine was a little more powerful. You should however not buy the bike because it is cheaper....test ride as much bikes as possible and then make your decision. Take care and stay safe out there in Afghanistan.
The program is through AAFES and is legit. I am an E6/SSG so not lower enlisted and not suckered in to anything. The program in my opinion is only good for Harleys since they never come off the price this much. Im not really worried about the price just thought that 12grand was a great price for a Dyna. I will be on leave in Dec and plan on taking some test rides.

No doubt that is a good price, and wasnt implying that you were junior or getting suckered in. But you know how these places do sometimes get our junior guys, yeah its a good price, but is it good for an E2? I was hoping that we would get a little more of a discount from Harley, but its better than nothing. And since my bike was previously ordered by someone else who backed out, I was stuck with paying for the alarm that was ordered, but its not a bad thing to have anyway.

Keep the King with no regrets. The RK is a totally multi purpose ride that you will not regret.
