Default new top clamp. bushings??? what gives....

so installed top clamp today. got a set of stock bushings from harley. will get poly later.

the problem is that the riders left hand side bushing wont go all the way down. I tighten it as hard as I can and it just wont go as far down as the other bushing. so there is a ton of wiggle and slop in the bars.

what would this be from

i put the bushings on a table and looked if some were different and they were not. all the same size and same lips for the seat???

for these pics i installed the bottom washer upside down so you could see how much of the bushing there is left

Did you look at the hole on the clamp and make sure there wasnt a washer stuck in there?

That is a two piece bushing with a anti crush spacer in the middle, you probably have the spacer cocked to the side which isn't allowing the two halves to make contact in the center. Apply a little grease or silicone spray before inserting them and the spacer.

maybe thats the problem. there was no anti crush spacer in the middle of the bushings.

i should just buy some poly bushings that come with the metal sleeve in the middle and go from there.

sux though bars are crooked and a good amount of slop

i dont think its the bolt bottoming because the other side with the same bolt tightens right up with no problems.

and there wasnt a washer in the hole either before I installed it

Just go back to the dealer and get the spacer, p/n 56153-73 They SHOULD have it in stock, you can't properly torque the risers without the spacers in there.

+1 to what p51 said.

If you are going to buy new ones these are my favorite, they disappear for a very clean look. Can't even see them in my sig pic.
