Apes, wider front wheel and tire, match the front wheel to the rear then only one wheel is needed. If you do the bars and wheel yourself max your looking at 1 grand, if bought smart, then you have another grand to put in cam and have dyno done, now you have 3 left for long ride, put it in the bank and add to it each week until sturgis add 35 bucks a week and you have another grand that gives you 4 for Sturgis, I imagine one could have a good time on 4 grand.

the op said he had 3 grand to invest in mods or a 5 day ride
What would you do if you had a 2011 fxdwg with pipes and intake and had 3 grand to spend. Would u add more upgrades if so what or would you take a 5 day ride.
OK. Are we to assume that somewhere in there you addressed the AFR/engine tuning to compensate for the intake upgrade and resulting lean condition? If not, then that's the next step: get it tuned. Otherwise....
Replace the awful rear shocks with a set of Ohlins from www.motorcyclemetal.com, consider doing something to the fork springs... not necessarily the full-monte just yet... and take the 5-day ride on $2,100, which shouldn't be too hard, if I'm understanding the math on this word problem.
