Heat is your friend. Leave them in the sun for a few to soften the adhesive.

Jusat use lighter fluid.If,after it dries,it looks like the dye came off too much a little black shoe polish will bring the color back.

Try the neatsfoot oil or even vegetable oil first and work your way up to WD40. If you do loose some dye you can re-dye them with a product called Fiebings professional leather dye. It is alcohol based and about $5 a bottle, search online and the Marine Black is the color your want. I would clean both bags the same way you are cleaning the adhesive bag to get them evenly faded and then if you aren't satisfied with the color you can dye them both evenly darker with the dye. If you don't clean and treat both bags the same they will probably never look quite the same.
