BUT,Ive read where because of crankshaft run out if you go to gears you must rebalance the crank or risk wrecking the motor. Im in the same boat, trying to figure how far to go with this.

Very true, but less of an issue with the earler (99-02) twin cams with forged crankshafts. They are a bit sturdier and the runout tends to be more in spec for gear drive.
I been asking around and a few shops told me to run the Andrews T54 on a stock 96 is the way to go. Heard good things about the Andrews 48. Don't know which is better of the two. Anyone have experience with them? My guy says with the T-54 the engine runs cooler because the exhaust valve stays open longer.
I'm looking for a good street cam.
I want more bottom-end and a strong mid-range. I don't do much highway riding over 75 mph.
Any advice, I want to keep the heads stock for now.

I dont know about going much bigger on a stock 1450 with no head work. What will probably happen is you will lose low end power and not gain anything on the top end. The 510 cams are good for about a 10 HP increase on a stock engine, with properly retuned fueling of course.
You need to check with Andrews and see what they say to use. I went with the 48H cams from them and one of the best changes I have made. The 48H cams make a lot of lowend power. They also keep on making power on up the RPM range. My MPG stayed the same. The other change was the 2 into 1 exhaust.
I also did the 48H cams and I love them. My bike feels a lot different.

Yup. Without doing some head work with new springs and raising the compression, you are pretty much maxed out with a .510 on the 88". 10 hp over a stage one isn't bad though. It will put you about 80hp and 85-90 lbs.ft. at the wheels. Not bad considering a bone stock only makes about 55hp at the wheels.
