Default Strange throttle behaviour

Hi guys, Hope you all had a good Christmas/holidays.

I've had a problem recently, it's happened twice now over the last 3 weeks.

The throttle has been acting really weird, getting a bit scary to be honest.

The first time it happened I was riding along and had to stop at some lights, as I pulled in the clutch to roll to a stop the bike stalled, I restarted it and pulled away as I released the throttle to change up to second it was like I hadn't released the throttle and the bike kept revving so I pulled over and turned the bike off. I turned it off, started it and went to pull away again this time the revs were going up and down without me moving the throttle at all. So again turned it off restarted it and all was fine, except I was now really stressed. Went home.

The second time my bike wouldn't start after sitting all day near where I work, once I got it started it did the reving up and down thing without moving my hand as i was trying to pull away.

So what do you guys reckon? Dodgy throttle position sensor?

Thanks in advance.

Oh btw '08 Street bob, Stage 1 A/C, big radius 2-1 and V&H fuelpak. I checked the screw thing under the throttle and that hadnt accidently been tightened.

Happy New Year guys, Ride safe.

Not sure what it might be but I would check to see if there are any codes. It might be a bad sensor or ecm. If there are any codes then you would have a good starting point to diagnose the problem.

Good advice to check for codes. You might also have a gunked up IAC, try cleaning that.

If I had a code the red key light would be on constantly on, correct? If so, no light.

What do you mean by IAC? Excuse my ignorance.

The red security light does not indicate you have a code. Look at this post:
https://www.hdforums.com/forum/elect...tic-codes.html

The IAC is a stepped motor in the throttle body. If you have the air filter off you can see it at about 11 o'clock. Put a clean rag behind it so you won't get crud in the intake and spray it with carb or throttle body cleaner. By switching the ignition off and on you can see the motor moving in and out. Spray it at different positions to get as much dirt as possible.

Try running the bike without the Fuel Pack and see if the problem repeats.

If it doesn't, unplug and clean all the connections at the Fuel Pack/ECM.

Put some dielectric grease on the pins and connectors and reattach.

Thanks guys,

I'll give the codes a go and if not i'll start looking at the cables and throttle body.

I'll keep you in the loop.

Thanks again

+1 on removing the fuelpak, this is one reason I dumped my fuelpak, for some reason cold day rides acted like a carbed bike, then it started doing intermittent crap soon as I removed it bike ran fine.

Do not put dielectric grease on the pins, it is a non-conductive material.
