Default Cam cover question?

Cam cover on a vtwin swap do you need to drain the oil? I will be ordering a new cam cover setup for the bike and from the way the cover is mounted I would think you would have to drain the oil first. But wanted someone to confirm or say you don't have to because it is all resting in the pan. Just worried if I remove the cover without draining the oil first it will create a huge mess. Or if you remove the cover nothing comes out? So if anyone that has removed theirs can confirm either way, thanks!

Just found a video on youtube and it looks like I thought. A good amount of oil will come out so I will wait till my 5,000 mile service and do it when I drain the oil for change.

You would have to have a very trust worthy and capable person to take care of that for the amount of time to remove and get the new one on tighten it up, etc. The bike will get heavy pretty quick leaned over enough to not allow any oil out.

I just use a turkey baseter to take out about a quart when I can't find my transfer pump.
