Mini Toolbox Essentials
Folks, if you were to put together (most probably already have) a tool kit and tool box for a dyna, what all would you include? I don't see a place to mount one of the old style teardrop boxes on the fld without taking out the passenger leg room and I rarely run my bags. What tools do you consider essentials to keep with you and how do you personally carry your kit?
Bob
I was going to try a tool bag strapped to the front forks but that did didnt work, next tried to mount it to the down tubes but the tire keeps hitting it so when I ride without the bags I keep a t-bag on the back and throw the tool kit in there

John, what's your list of tools that you keep in there?
I have Windzone 1HD-EE toolkit and for the most part is a good kit,BUT I replaced the cheesy multi screwdriver with one of the Kline multi drivers. All the wrenches are of god quality basically everything you would need on the road
on my battery bag I have vice grip pliers and a multi-screwdriver set with several size torx and allen wrenches...plus a flashlight, zip ties and electrical tape...other none tool things are a bandana, clear glasses and a knife...
on a seperate tool bag (which I mount on my bars above the headlight when I travel) I have a complete tool kit that I've put together (mostly craftsman)...There's a thread I did a while bag with the list of sockets, allens and torx that I've include...
I originally carried all of these tool on my battery bag but it was too heavy and caused the bag to sag and the possibility of me needing all these tools around town wasn't realistic...so now I only take with me on out of town trips...
it is handy, however, to have most of your motorcycle tools in a kit ready to go...emergency or not.
if you're buying a pre-made kit, I agree windzone seems to be the best bang for your buck...cheaper than cruz tools and has better reviews on the quality of tools...
have a good one,.

1 Phillips Head Screwdriver
1 Flat Head Screwdriver
1 pair of pliers
1 SAE Socket Set with wrench (I keep them in a zip lock bag)
1 Torx set to 3/8 socket head
1 allen set to 3/8 socket head
rag
gerber all in one
electrical tape
1 shifter peg
i roll of electrical tape (i can tape anything down until I can get to duct tape or repair it)
I keep everything in a medium sized tool bag that I keep mounted above the headlight.
It is a tight fit but I haven't come by a situation where I've needed anything else for a quick roadside repair. Anything more major and I call a tow truck.

here was my list that i prepared at an earlier time...since I've succeeded in putting a tool kit with mostly craftsman tools (I bought a craftsman tool kit and gutted it to create my motorcycle kit)...
hope it helps

I used to spend boat loads of money on snap-on and mac tools until I realized the tools that cost half as much work the same. I carry a leatherman, 2 4" adjustable wrenches, a few zip ties and a roll of electrical tape. But the two most important tools on my bike are my cell phone and Glock 30sf.

cabello, I printed your list from that link and actually, I think I have just about all that stuff already. thank you for the link.
You wrenches would be appalled at my tool disorganization. lol... My construction tools, i know where everything is, but for the bike, they are everywhere! lots of duplications. Time to organize, no doubt.
On my quick search I even found a old hard leather windshield tool bag out there. Thanks for the input guys. Wyld, thanks man.
