I have an arlen big suck air cleaner with the stage II filter I took a piece of chrome aluminum diamond plate turned it into a circle the size of the outside of the filter It covers the end of the filter nothing else.I painted it with blacktextured bbq paint when it dried I scraped off the diamonds with my thumb nail hopefully I uploaded the picture right I did this on my scanner
No problems, the picture turned out just fine. I like the homemade approach to the air cleaner problem. I've also seen where some have taken the stock football cover and cut it down so that the insert area is the only thing remaining. There are some good looking aftermarket inserts, but I don't think you'll see anyone with a similar air cleaner cover.
Diamondplate seems to be a unique approach to bike problems. At a recent bike gathering in my neck of the woods, there was a guy with a 1980's vintage Electra Glide that had homemade saddlebags (boxes?) made out of diamondplate. The guy was a metalworker by trade and these boxes had taken a lot of work. While shiny silver boxes attached to my ride isn't a look I particularly want, this seemed to work on his old ride.
I've got a Ness Big Sucker intake I just bolted on. I want to go without a cover and just an insert. I love that look. Are there any opinions about whether its good to do this? I got a real good price on a Custom Chrome billet insert on E-Bay, its just a bit too big and I'd love to cut it down. Any tips on that? Steve that diamond plate is too damn cool!
Just wondering what anyone running an open air cleaner uses on the outside of the SE air cleaner other than a full cover.
Gary
Any of the H-D inserts can be used with the SE element for the open or naked look. Here's a pic of my 05 FXDI with this setup. I've seen people use CD's too.
