Long story short I may be changing out my primary cover next time I service my bike. I have the HD forward controls on and that little plastic piece glued to the inside of primary cover where the shifter used to be. I am looking at 2 part numbers: 60758-06 which is what I have on the bike at present.
There is a part number 60717-07 which reads "Fits 07 later Softail models. Also fits 06-later FLD and Dyna models equipped with factory forward controls. Will not fit with Accessory Forward Controls."
Am I correct in assuming this will fit my bike and do away with the plugged hole?
I am confused about the terminology "Accessory Forward Controls".
I don't see why it wouldn't either. Best I can tell, the only difference is the lack of the hole in the side where the mid control shifter is which I don't have anymore. I still don't know what "accessory forward controls" are. Possibly something that fits onto an existing mid control set up??
I got this chrome cover from Dennis Kirk to cover the hole. It comes with peal and stick on it but dose not work. I cleaned it off and cleaned the primary good and used silcone. Taped it to primary overnight. It hase been on for 2 years.
That part should fit buddy but a word of warning, i bought a live to ride ride to live derby cover, and found out when I got home that it is missing a 16th of an inch all around leaving a gap and you need a flat gasket to go on there which will likely need changing every time you open it up. Maybe you knew that already, but when I found that out I returned mine.
I went back to a stock cover with a DL Derby capper. When I took off the one the dealer had put on when I bought the bike I noticed that 3 of the screws were very loose. It hadn't leaked so I didn't think much of it. when I went to put the new one on I found out why they were loose. They stripped out the holes. Wtf? I was able to retap two of them and got a helicoil for the other. The one with the helicoil is still not quite right but it is one of the top ones so I will let it go till service time. I just wanted a replacement in case I couldn't do anything else with that one hole.
you are lucky.
I can't do this cause mine's a 2000 with five speed. They didn't make a wrinkle black primary with forwards for five speeds I can replace the inspection plate, but that's it (well I could get chrome and wrinkle black it...)
