Default 2001 FXDXT new owner

I've just taken delivery of a 2001 FXDXT, Vivid Black, very stock, 8355 miles.

The first thing I need to do is replace the original tires. They are Dunlop 100/90-19 57H D401F and 130/90B16 73H D401. I was considering Avon Venoms, but I'm not sure about using a MT90B-16 on the rear. There appears to be plenty of clearance around the 130/90B16 that's on there. Anybody have any thoughts on that, or FXDXT tires in general?

I've discovered that I'm missing one of the saddlebag raincovers. Would of been nice to have, but I don't plan on riding in the rain much anyway. For some reason I thought I read that the bags would have locks, but I don't see anything that looks like a lock. Considering that they're not replaceable, I'll have to figure out a way to secure them.

I only got one key and it doesn't have a security FOB as shown in the owner's manual, so I'm assuming that it doesn't have a security system. Was that an option? Is there any way to tell if it has that? Can a lock shop duplicate the key, or does this require a trip to the dealer?

I'm looking forward to getting it on the road.

Not sure about the key, believe its a dealer thing.

You would know if it has a security system - w/o the fob it makes alot of noise if you start or move it. This has always been an option to the bike, never stock.

Stock was a 150 tire for the FXDXT. A 150 will fit fine.

No locks on bags, but I believe HD makes a lock you can retrofit on soft bags.

Congrats on the FXDXT and ride safe.

Yup, a 150 will fit no problem on the rear. Look at the pirelli night dragons or Dunlop gt501 I'd you want something with grip. The Avons are also good, but not sure if they have a 150. I'm squeezing a 160 on mine.

The 2001 came stock with the 130 rear... starting in 2002 the t-sport got the 150 rear. The rear fender is different between the two years, different part numbers for the sissy bar..etc..

Congrats on the FXDXT and ride safe. Ditto. [/quote]

I love mine and will ride it until one of us dies.

My '01 had security, S&S module lost that. Also came with a 130, now have a 160/60R 18 on back under the stock fender...great bikes for the owner who appreciatese their qualities

I'm surprised that the T sport only had a 130 and no security option. My bike is an '01 non T and it came stock with the 150 and has a factory security system.

At this point I think I'm going with the Pirelli Night Dragon tires. I'm figuring a MU85HB-16 on the rear will give me a little more width, but the overall diameter will be the same as the original 130/90. I'm more interested in the stick factor than the wear factor.
