I have had 3 different bikes on my J&S jack (1 softail, 2 dynas) all with the front ends completely off without using any straps. The bikes were balanced just fine on the bike and I didn't worry about them falling off.

Not to say that I would lean on the bikes or anything but you can roll them around just fine.

You can take the two wheels off but don't go any further. I took off my rear wheel and then the shocks and the bike went down forward. What saved it was me grabbing the strut (I had the fender off getting ready to cut the struts off) and the front wheel hitting the floor.

No one was home so I held on to the strut/bike until my kid came home and got my straps from the tool box.
I have a Sears yellow jack and now I put that under the front wheel when I work on the rear.

Just a warning.

If I was using a Sears jack I would be very concerned with safety! I would 100% strap my bike if I had one of those!
The J&S and the Pitbull motorcycle jacks are built very different from the Sears/Harbor Freight jacks.

thanks for the info guys. i may put a couple straps on the front just in case since I live alone, no one to come home to help out to hold it if something happens. Once both wheels are off should be ok after that.

yes its a sturdy thing, fits my dyna perfect, very sturdy and heavy, just never used it with the tires off yet. thanks again guys.

I guess I wasn't clear. I have a J&S jack. I'm using the Sears jack under the front wheel so the bike doesn't fall forward off the jack. The weight of the bike with out the rear wheel and shocks is front heavy and the jack even with it jacked all the way up still wants to fall over.

That makes sense and no, you weren't clear
I've had the back wheel off of my Ultra and no issues but it has all kinds of heavy things to balance out the load. Dyna...different animal.

Smart move! All it takes is one time and you will be kicking yourself in the *** for a long time. I have a lift table and a jack and I would not try to work on either of my bikes without strapping them down. A weight shift when removing a wheel, an inadvertent bump and the damage is done; you can hurt yourself in the process trying to grapple with an 800 pound motorcycle that will take you down with it. Glad to hear that common sense prevailed.

I had both wheels, all 3 tins, & the fork sliders off the bike while on my J&S.
I didn't use a strap, but it's obviously cheap insurance.

When using a strap to secure the bike, what is the strap linked too ? to the lift ? to hooks in the floor ? weights ?
