Default SE II slip-on loose rivets

I just purchased a 2001 FXDXT with SE II slip-on mufflers. Each muffler has a rivet on the wheel side about 5" from the end. I'm assuming that this is to keep the baffle from sliding out. These rivets are loose (I can pull the head away from the muffler 1/8"). When I look inside the baffle, I can't see the end of the rivet, but there's a hole that lines up with the rivet head on the outside. My plan is to grind off the head and push the rivet into the muffler. Hopefully the baffle will slide out, I can remove the rivet, push the baffle back in, and secure it with a SS screw and locking nut. Anybody been down this road?

Mine have bolts to hold the baffles, not rivets.....

My SE II slip ons had rivets as well. Never noticed them loose but obviously they were as i heard a horrible sound one day and then saw one of my baffles flying down the road behind me. Not sure they were loose as it looked like the rivet was ripped out as there was an oblonged hole where the rivet used to be. Oh well, it was a perfect time to upgrade
