Yea, I think you're right. Not sure but I think the 99-03 TC88s CKP used the long, long lead wire bundled in a loom with the oil pressure sender wire. While the 04- TC88s used a much shorter, shielded wire that ends in a connector included with the new sensor, that connects to the wiring harness line just to the left of the oil pressure sender, so it is much easier to swap out.
I think so, i forgot about the oil wire too... that thing was a major pain... i basically had to take off the slip/ons ...exhaust bracket... everything fishing those wires.
maybe a 2002 is different... i ran mine through the factory fabric mesh loom " this is gonna take longer than 2 min, maybe an hour" as far as i know the deustche connector is not included with the factory part, you have to reuse the old one

Here's the parts breakdown for the respective years. 2004 and up have the short wiring set-up and can be ordered as a complete (wiring & connector) kit.
I'm a bit confused on you guys' description of the connector and, in fact, the entire description of the crankshaft position sensor..I have an '03 Fat Boy..it died on me yesterday.. I went and picked up a new crankshaft position sensor (Part # 32707-01C) from the local Harley dealership (cost $54 plus tax)..
I'm not a mechanic, but I was able to remove the old part and am in the process of installing the new one..I didn't encounter any of the wiring harness issues you guys are talking about..I've attached a photo of the crankshaft position sensor and as you can see, its pretty much a plug-in operation..it's only about 10 inches long and is not encased in any wiring harness sheath..it's all neatly secured in snaps up under the oil filter..I would think we all have the same engine, so I'm curious..am I missing something?...thanks..
Pity you fellas with the '00-'03 ... a lot more involved to have to change out ...
My '05 failed in a spectacular way ... riding down the freeway when the little housing that goes into the case grenaded and oil started spewing out ...
I immediately pulled over and shut down ... couldn't figure out what was going on (at first I thought it was a defective oil filter since the front of the motor was covered in oil and I had just changed the oil/filter) ...
Then after a close inspection of the filter and the motor I was able to identify the culprit ...
On the '04 and later, it is a pretty simple fix ... also, even though I've had it happen to me once, a $50+ part seems a little silly to carry around with you 'just in case' ...
