Default Need help with Drag Bar Install

I got a pair of wild1 bars and the stock ones have internal wiring, now i notice it goes under tank and then it looks like it goes in frame could this be? I have a 2011 wide glide. Is there a really easy way to do this? I am no mechanic lol

Easy way?????????? Not really.

Your wiring harness comes out of the hand controls and feeds into the bars and if the wires are wrapped in that mesh crap like mine have it will catch on the openings of the bars as you try to get it out or back in. Then you have to deal with the connectors which will in no way ever fit through the opening in the bars so you will either have remove the pins one by one and remove the connector themselves or cut them and splice them back on later. Square peg, round hole. Also it might be easier to remove the bolts to the tank and lift it up and back a bit to get at that plastic cover right under the frame behind the lower tree that covers where the connectors are stashed. Also there are two rubber grommets on each side of the frame where the wires come out from just behind trees, they are a bit of a pain to remove but not much and removing them while your working on the wiring will make getting them out of the frame and then putting them back in easier. The rubber grommets are semi easy to reinstall so I wouldn't fret on that part till your done dealing with the wiring.

It's a pain in the *** and time consuming but its not rocket science so it is doable if your patient. You need a paper clip or really small flathead screwdriver or something similar to get under the pin for each wire and push the lock tab out of the way to get each pin out of the connector. Like I said time consuming but not rocket science. Also watch the stupid little star socket bolts holding the hand controls together cause they strip out easy. I switched mine out with allen head ones from Ace and got spares.

I put Flanders 35 degree drag bars on my Fat Bob cause they have better pullback than the stock drag bars so I went through all of this last month. My suggestion is write down a diagram of the wiring connector color code so once you get all of the wires separated you don't lose track of which one goes where. Yours being the same year I would guess you have 3 wires on each side for the turn signals and an 8 pin connector and a 6 pin connector for the left and right various hand controls on each side. The turns are easy as both sides have one black, one blue, and one purple wire and as long as you don't put them in out of order your fine. The hand control wires are much more complicated as far as color code. Don't remember which side is 6 and which side is 8 but as far as which side goes to which connector is easy to remember as they are different color connectors and different size.

Just my 2 cents but unless your one of those really talented people who can pull off garage projects that look good as new when your done get rid of the mesh wrap or buy new cause by the time you get the wires out it will be a bit chewed up and doesn't look as good. I kept mine for the reinstall and now wish I hadn't.

WOW xantasm, some write up. I did my bars on my 11 wg and I would say it was pretty easy. I would rate it a 5 on a scale from 1-10. Just take your time and make a good diagram of the connectors. If u get stuck, just walk away and come back to it. If u do it you will be happy u accomplished a big job and u will save a lot of money.

I wasn't as prepared for the pin connectors not wanting to come out of their spots so for me it went from somewhat simple to a lot of swearing really quick. The mesh wrap was my biggest disappointment cause it just snagged all to hell and bummed me out after cause the rest looked good but the wrap up close looks like straight poo. So I figure if I give a haggard version then the talented folks will know to avoid the little stuff that turns a good project into a swearing session.
